WARNING: Sealed lead-acid batteries contain live electrical current and can be extremely dangerous. Never touch battery terminals directly or with metal objects! Never place in or near water or other liquids! Do not let children play with batteries!
NOTICE: UPS batteries contain lead-acid, a substance that can be harmful to health and environment. Batteries must always be disposed of properly by a licensed recycling facility. To learn how to dispose of your UPS batteries properly in your area, please check your yellow pages for a local recycler or battery dealer for assistance. Should you ever encounter a leaking battery, do not touch the liquid or breath the vapors. Immediately call a local recycler or battery dealer for assistance.
Batteries are a "consumable" item. Just like you have to periodically change batteries in a flashlight, you also have to periodically change the batteries in a UPS. Fortunately, all Metapo UPS products have battery test buttons and/or battery replacement indicators. You should periodically do a real world battery test by bringing your computer to a "ready to shutdown" state and then pulling the UPS power cord out of the wall outlet. If the computer turns off, then you likely have weak batteries that need to be replaced.
Many Metapo UPS models have "user replaceable" batteries. For other models you should take the UPS to a reputable computer dealer or electronics store for replacement.
Batteries can be found in many local areas in the yellow pages or on the internet under "batteries" or "electronic supplies". Batteries can also be purchased from Metapo online at http://store.yahoo.com/fentonups/upsbaac.html.
Below are the battery specifications for Metapo products. As much as possible we recommend using 0.250" battery terminals instead of 0.187" battery terminals, because our UPS battery cable "quick disconnect" connectors are designed to mate with 0.250" battery terminals and may be loose when used with 0.187" battery terminals. However, if you must use 0.187" terminals, you can tighten the battery cable connectors with pliers BEFORE you connect them to the battery terminals (NOT after you connect them).
For all UPSs except the PowerOffice S300A and S450A, we do not recommend a specific brand of batteries. There are many reputable brands on the market, including CSB, Panasonic, and Yuasa-Exide. However, please note that some batteries that have the same electrical specifications may have slightly different physical dimensions and may have a slightly tighter or looser fit in the UPS battery compartment.
